Some concern youth of Liberia have issued a Press Release calling on the US embassy in the country to desist from interfering in Liberia’s internal affairs.
The press release, which was captured by The People’s News Africa contains some strong views of the youth expressing their displeasure about how the US representative unwarrantedly interferes in the country’s internal affaires.
Below is a copy of the full release by the your group.
“We called on the United States Embassy near the Liberian capital of Monrovia to immediately desist from interfering in “Liberian internal affairs!” HE Ambassador Christine Elder, should note particularly that the statement coming out of the US Embassy, is provocative, unwarranted, and seeks to infringe on Liberia’s democracy, particularly given the United States long standing policy which was heightened during our civil crisis AFTER the United States ARMED a military dictatorship and then refused to intervene in our civil crisis: arguing THAT our crisis were an “internal affairs,” while at the same time intervening in Iraq— despite Liberia’s long standing relationship and loyalty to the United States, especially during the cold war and the preceding decades which saw Liberia risk it’s souverignty and national existence as it entered WWII as an Ally in loyalty to the US despite not having a standing army to fight Nazi Germany and the Axis Powers.
The US refusal to help constructively bring the war to an early end saw 300thousand LIBERIANS dead with millions displaced. The US was also a major supporter of Ellen Sirleaf and her misrule, a major contributing factor to Liberias current imbroglio!!
While we are not part of the July 24th protest, Madame Elder should note, she cannot wantonly issued statements and press releases from Mamapoint as she pleases! We therefore called on the Government of Liberia to engage the protest leaders and find amicable solution to the pending protest. Long live American-Liberian relations and the suffering people of Liberia!
